I keep cool with neck ties cooled in the fridge & a wet flannel placed in the freezer, then put on top of my head to cool me down. I'm a Pom & can't stand heat over 23 degrees!

Hi Kitz,  Yep, it feels like a yukky day ahead.   Dampen your clothes, and use fans (if you have them).  In the old days, I heard, they used wet hessian at the windows to catch the breeze and act like a cooler.  Drink cold water too.
My dogs live outside on the semi-enclosed verandah.  They've got their own evaporative air cooler.  It's necessary in this heat.

We had just one day last week @ 38, that was enough for me.
I could not survive without airconditioning!
In the olden days before fans and air cons, my Dad used to hose the house down, that would at least cool the bricks and cool the house a  bit.
We also used to go to a Scout Camp to stay, they had sprinklers on the tin roof which were turned on to cool the place down. Not much good if you have water restrictions though. At least we have bore water her to use for that.
Will be interesting to see the replies!

I wouldn't mind some heat.  It's been coolish  and drizzly here for 2 days.

Hey kitz29design .. keep everything dark, cover your windows and keep the blinds and curtains drawn.
Comments as above, cold flannels are good :)

Marian my mum used to do the hose on the house thing too. She had a few tricks ( she is from the land of heat - Thailand)

Others things were:

Ice on the bedsheets before bed then have the fan on you
Fill the bath & sinks with water
Freezing fruit pices for snacks
mopping the floors
wet and frozen towels or facecloths

I'm sure there is more lol

Yes, we are in for a hot week in Victoria too.

I remember my Mum would half fill an ice cream container or bowl, freeze.

Then when you turned the fan on, placed the bowl of ice in front of the fan, and you get the cool of the ice in the container when the fan is blowing.

We have air con, so that will be getting a work-out this week.

Best of luck everyone and try and stay cool.

I hope everyone thinks of their pets & birds. I always wonder how birds in aviaries get on, they must get so hot in those steel aviaries. I had a friend who had one and she used to have an old blnket she would keep wet and put over the aviary,
So often you see poor budgies & canaries out on verandahs on stinking hot days also.Marian

Oh I like the ice cream container one

I know Maran,  my cats arent usually allowed inside- they have a "house" out the back shed- but if its over 30 they come in. Last 40+ heatwave we had I rescued a galah. We had him for about a week then as soon as it cooled down he bit me & flew away- take that for grattitude little bugger :P

41* on the Nullabor now blah
