For those Sellers who show the PayPal Logo as a payment option but refuse to accept it
Unfortunately a Seller has just missed out on a number of purchases from me ,

Sellers if you show the PayPal Logo in your Payment Options , you have to accept it as a payment method.

You cannot state " PayPal is for overseas buyers only" and have the logo showing.

Bummer and I really wanted these Bear Magazines too .

issy.. did you let the seller know of their mistake and/or report the listing to admin. I would message the seller first, they may not realise they are breaking the rules.

There should be a report button for ppl displaying paypal accepted but then having over a certain amount or have an additional fee for its use.
They have lost my purchases.
Was bitten once and had the payment rejected and an email with their bank account details.

Direct deposit doesnt hurt

c&d

they are probably $1 mags & buyers should in general be considering the costs imposed to seller by pp etc

thats crap rules made by pp who seem to get away to anything
its immoral & un aust to impose those restrictions on those offering this service & you dont see same for eftpos etc

pp requires investigating

im gonna even say this, not re op

any buyer who pays by pp for $1 or close to is....whatever....is inconsiderate & thats putting it nicely, but maybe some sellers have created & fed all this by having $1 items

I saw someone with a $1 yesterday & it was AU freepost, which would cost them 55 cent to send, take off fees & theres hardly anything left for seller

& they only had those couple things at same price, so it was not a shop attraction thing to get customers in
I cannot even figure out why go to the trouble

Depending on the bank used , direct deposit can attract other fees. The bank used is not always displayed until its payment time.

Ummm am I missing something here??? I thought PP was optional here. Where does it say that I have to offer PP to everyone. I personaly refuse to use or offer PP when I do sell things here. I cant see a problem with offering it to ONLY overseas buyers.

Anyways I dont offer it and refuse to use it (I have my reasons).

People wont buy if you dont offer PP and if you do they complain you are asking to much for your items because you had to bump the price up to cover PP costs.

ANyway thats my 2 cents worth.

Yes you are.  Paypal IS optional here.  The issue is not that the seller didn't offer Paypal, but that they DO offer Paypal on their listings AND they display the Paypal logo to show they accept Paypal, but they then restrict its use to overseas buyers only.  Oztion rules say that if you select Paypal as a payment option and display the logo to show you accept Paypal, then you MUST accept it for ALL buyers, you can't pick and choose.  If you wish to restrict Paypal, you cannot list it as a payment option and must not display the Paypal logo, but can add a line in your payment terms to the effect that Paypal is also available under certain circumstances.

As usual BB you go of on a tangent , if you accept PayPal then accept all payments , Sellers can open a Micro account for under $10 transactions and still provide their buyers with another option to pay, which if I'm right you do don't you ?
So why the whining ?

BB When you signed up with PP you agreed to their Terms , so why use it when you obviously have an issue with it ?

I have lots of buyers who pay via PP for small amounts , Thank you Buyers your most welcome to do so , any seller who wants to whinge about buyers paying via PP for small amounts may need to reconsider their buyers payment options.

The topic was about breaching PayPal policies , and loosing out on possible sales . But perhaps some Sellers don't care , yet are the first to come in and whine about lack of sales.

I have no intention of reporting the Seller , but I will drop them a message as it's quite possible that should they reject a payment via PP , they can be reported to PP and loose their account , something they may not be aware of.

Now I'm off to go shopping and fingers crossed will have no further issues

Hi issabelladesignstudio I also have a lot of buyers who pay via paypal with small amounts, which I accept its all part of selling on line.  I have also paid for a few items of small cost  this way and no one has ever complained.

If seller's don't want to use PayPal they should like has been suggested, take it off their listing and add a note, to contact them.

As I see it, I offer Bank Deposit on every item, therefore I cannot (for whatever reason) then tell a buyer 'No not on this item' the point is if I offer it on a listing then I have to accept it.  Nothing to do with the company being used, like a bank.

I also offer Paymate on every listing, even if $1 or less, too much bother to take it off some and leave on others, although it can be done.     Howver I do point out that I pay my sellers fees to Paymate as the fees are shared between the buyer and seller.   It still allows a buyer to pay using a plastic card account.

Just a hint about bank accounts, I post on the terms that I use ANZ so there is no mistake about which bank I use.

If Paypal is offered, it is against PP's policies for sellers to discrimiante against buyers. If it is offered for one customer then it must be offered for all.

Sellers who offer PP could look in to getting a second PP account (micro account) The fees are calculated differently and it is cost effective for transactions under $10.

What's eftpos got to do with it BB? We also had a minimum purchase amount to use it as the fees for having that thing are massive. It's not illegal. It's also not illegal to add a fee for paypal usage either, it's just an Oztion rule. Probably something to do with adding extra costs after purchase, which is understandable. You just have to price your items to cover it.

Can somebody please point me to where OZtion have written any stipulations regarding the use of Paypal? I can't find them anywhere.
My understanding is that the rule against requiring a minimum sale amount, or surcharges, for using Paypal was initially imposed by eBay to increase Paypal use.
Minimum sale amounts and surcharges are referred to in Paypal's User Agreement, under Seller Discouragement Policy. Paypal specify that these things are not permitted on your eBay listing or your own website only. Not other venues!
I do use and offer Paypal because I buy and sell overseas. I request a minimum sale amount for Australian buyers using Paypal, because their fees are damned high. For the same reason, I wouldn't dream of paying an Australian seller for a $2 item with Paypal. I'd like to think I'm a bit more considerate than that.

Credit Card Surcharges: Sellers may not charge surcharges for receiving payments unless the item was paid for by credit card. Merchants are allowed to recoup the cost of merchant service fees directly from consumers who purchased using a credit card. If a merchant does decide to impose a surcharge they must clearly state in the payment instructions that a credit card fee will apply and the amount of the fee. Other costs associated with receiving payments cannot be added to the final price.

Thanks shazy2008. I had actually seen the rule regarding surcharges, but I was more curious about the comments in an earlier posting which said that Oztion rules specified that if you offered Paypal you had to make it available to everyone. I certainly hadn't seen anything along those lines in the Listing Policy.
It would appear that there are no Paypal-specific rules on Oztion. And as Paypals own rules do not prohibit a seller from being selective regarding its use on a site such as this, that then becomes a business/personal decision for the seller. I personally offer Paypal for overseas buyers and for amounts over $15. If this has cost me possible sales, then so be it. Better a lost sale than a loss!

I suggest you contact Admin .... There is written policy that states you must comply with the Paypal terms of agreement  ...

However, OZtion Admin have stated what has been mentioned above (there is something on a forum somewhere) which basically paraphrased is:

If you select Paypal as a payment method, the logo will automatically appear.  HOWEVER, if you do this you are obliged to accept Paypal on any transaction regardless of $ value.  If you wish to only accept Paypal for certain amounts, then you don't tick Paypal as an option (and therefore the logo does not show) but you place a statement in your payment terms to the effect that Paypal may be available for purchases over a certain amount.

Note: If you don't tick the Paypal option, then the Paypal autopay system won't work ....

The day I can't afford to sell a one dollar item and have the buyer pay with pp is the day I will remove pp logo from my options.

In the meantime I leave it there because most of my buyers prefer pp, I wouldn't have had my last 5 sales if I didn't.

do I think it is ridiculous that a buyer sent an echeck for a $1 something purchase?  Absolutely.  But I'll wait till Friday or Monday for it to clear and then post.  Perhaps they don't have netbanking or access to a b & m st. george.  Not to worry
