Blackpool Rock used to be a big hit at my place - long sticks of hard candy, pink on the outside, white int he middle with tiny letters through the middle in black that read Blackpool Rock.  Used to be able to buy it at the Central Markets and lollyshops, a lot of places have it now as sort of a souvenir.

There's a lolly shop in Adelaide that makes it too, so you should be able to find the same sort of thing locally.

Cumberland is a very rich traditional cake from the North West of England.

Cumberland Currant Cake Slice
Short Pastry
Mixed Peel, Minced
Washed Currants
Mixed Spice
Sugar
METHOD
Roll Short Pastry into an oblong strip 10 by 20 inches. Cut the strips into two 10 inch squares. Spread one square with Currants, sprinkle with Mixed Peel and Mixed Spice, then with Sugar.
Brush the edges with water and cover with the second piece of pastry. Lightly press with a rolling pin, prick with a fork, and bake on a buttered tin in a quick oven  190C Cut into slices when cold.
Based on the Cumberland Currant Cake recipe in:
Cookery Illustrated & Household Management by Elizabeth Craig (Odhams Press 1936).

Our Coles sell Jacobs Cream Crackers (in orange wrapper).  Like Australian Sao, but English.
You can also purchase digestive biscuits - also very English!
Some of the above suggestions have made me homesick again!!!!

Good luck - doncha love it when kids give you their project instructions when it's too late to do anything worthwhile??  LOL!

hi and thankyou to you all for answering my thread, its just like kids to leave it till the last minute.
I was so tempted to go and buy fish and chips for my son to take to school but it has to be in a closed packet, i did look around coles for everything mentioned above and found that they dont really have to much over there from england in fact,i was there around one and a half hours and finally found only one thing that clearly says on packet made in england. They were fruit fizzers, the brand is swizzels matlow,it was such a relief..
Thankyou you all once again for your help.  :o)
