stories
about
various
characters
who
all
have
in
common

solitariness:women,
girls,
workers,
sutdents,
poets,
vagrants,
children.
Each
story
begins

a
few
abrupt,
swift
poignant
sentences
which
convey
a
whole
world
or
give
an
entire
characterization.
Throughout,
economy
of
words
gives
an
intense
vividness
that
makes this
collection
one of
the
most
original
& best
writing
to
emerge
from
Italy,
in
recent
