Shell
Casing
converted
into
a
Vase.
Description:
Here
we
have
a
World
War
11
shell
casing
that
has
been
converted
into
a
vase.
The
shell
casing
has
been
cut
back
to
increase
the
diameter
of
the
top
to
accommodate
a
larger
bunch
of
flowers.
It
was
also
chromed
back
in
the
mid
nineteen
fifties.
There
is
also
only
one
name
that
I
can
find;
Fmmco,
and
that
is
on
the
firing
cap,
so
I
assume
that
Fmmco
is
the
manufacture
of
the
firing
cap
and
not
the
shell
casing
itself.
Lastly,
the
shell
was
a
souvenir
brought
back
from
the
New
Guinea
campaign.
I
do
not
know
if
it
is
a
navel
shell
casing
or
an
army
shell
casing.
Condition
of
vase:
Apart
from
a
few
scratches
and
a
small
dint
or
two,
and
one
small
patch
were
the
chrome
has
been
warn
off,
the
shell
casing
is
in
good
condition.
The
inside
is
only
chromed
down
about
50mm.
From
there
to
the
bottom
it
is
un-chromed
and
a
little
dull
looking.
Length
of
vase:
217mm.
Diameter
at
the
top:
86mm.
Diameter
at
the
bottom:
103mm.
Manufacture
of
shell
casing:
Unknown.
Age:
1940,
or
69
years.
New/Used:
Used.
Weight:
1274.9
grams,
plus
packing.
