Fred Bell was born at Guerie in NSW, 1913. A keen fisherman, Fred Bell and his son Fred Bell Jnr spent many a time on the Darling River and Murrumbidgee river in search of Murray Cod, Yellow belly and Catfish.

Fred Bell landed some great catches and Murray Cod of 20 lbs were common. Murray Cod up to 80 lbs were shared up among family and Murray Cod of 40lbs were not uncommon. However his biggest ever catch was a 95lb Murray Cod caught at the Darling River on a set line baited with yabby.

Fred Bell Snr was very particular about his fishing gear and only ever used top quality gear.
