Emanuel
Phillips
Fox
studied
in
both
Melbourne
and
Paris.
In
1893
he
co-founded
the
Melbourne
Art
School.
He
exhibited
frequently
in
Paris
and
in
Australian
cities.
Emanuel
Phillips
Fox
was
influenced
by
contemporary
painters
and
masters
alike,
and
his
works
ranged
from
sunny
landscapes
to
figure
compositions,
but
all
demonstrated
his
mastery
of
light
and
colour.
In
1913
he
was
commissioned
to
paint
the
portrait
of
the
Australian
Prime
Minister,
Andrew
Fisher.
His
work
is
represented
in
most
state
and
provincial
galleries.
He
died
in
1915.
