One
Child
BY
Torey
L.
Hayden
One
Child
is a
book
by
the
author
Torey
Hayden.
All
the
books
are
true
stories
written
by
Torey
who
was
a
special-needs
teacher
and
educational
psychologist
working
in
America.
This
is
the
story
of
Sheila
a
6
year
old
little
girl
who
has
lived
in
a
world
without
love
and
affection.
We
learn
that
she
was
abandoned
on
a
busy
highway
by
her
mother
when
she
was
only
4
years
old
and
her
mother
left
taking
Sheila's
younger
brother
and
started
a
new
life.
Sheila
was
left
to
be
brought
up
by
her
alcoholic
father
who
does
not
even
care
for
Sheila's
basic
needs.
Now
aged
6
she
is
placed
in
a
class
for
children
with
severe
learning
difficulties
because
there
is
nowhere
else
for
her
to
go
because
her
behaviour
is
so
unmanageable.
The
book
tells
of
Sheila
and
Torey's
difficult
relationship.
How
Torey
struggles
to
deal
with
Sheila's
behaviour
and
how
she
tries
to
reach
the
troubled
little
girl.
It
is
an
amazing
story
all
the
more
heartbreaking
because
it
is
true.
There
are
parts
of
the
book
which
are
slightly
disturbing
when
they
talk
about
the
abuse
that
Sheila
has
received
however
on
the
whole
it's
an
interesting
and
intriguing
read.
It's
more
about
the
complicated
relationship
and
how
just
when
you
think
Torey
is
getting
through
to
Sheila
something
else
happens
to
drive
her
further
away.
