This item is a NEW pair of T & E Tools Ignition Points Files p/n 3317.  OK, lets face it, most vehicles these days with a Spark Ignition are Electronic ?........Right. Lot's of "earlier" cars can be converted to electronic....Right ?. But what if you've got something that's still got a points ignition ?. You can buy new points everytime you do a tune-up, assuming the're still available or you can buy a pair of these handy files and restore your existing points. Points do wear out, but you can usually "dress" the point faces several times before the're ready for replacement.

Why File points ?. Points build up metal on the face of one or the other contact face, removing from one face and depositing on the other during use.  This is normal and a result of "arcing" when the points open and close during operation. The more build up of deposits on the face, the less likely the points will make proper contact causing more arcing. Eventually the Dwell angle will be affected and you will lose performance, horsepower and fuel economy. Depending on your condenser condition, it will happen slowly or quickly. Points should be checked and filed if necessary, every 2000 miles (approx.3200K's) or definately filed @ 5000 miles (8000 K's) maximum.

Back in the "Old" days, you would have your car tuned at least every 6 months or 5-6000 miles (10,000 K's). With points ignition this still stands today.
